Moral-Satirical Songs
Cum sit enim proprium viro sapienti supra petram ponere sedem fundamenti
Since it is proper for a wise man to place the seat of his foundation upon rock
Context
Biblical allusion turned satirical. The wise man builds on rock, but the poet observes that the Church has built on sand — wealth, power, and pretense.
