The Lovers
The Solidarity Pact
Two workers shake hands beneath a banner that reads 'WORKERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE.' Above them, a winged figure drops not an arrow but a pamphlet. Behind one worker, a factory; behind the other, a farm. The handshake bridges the urban-rural divide.
Choice, partnership, and the unity of opposites. The Solidarity Pact is not romance — it is the deeper love of shared struggle. A decision must be made, and it must be made together. Individual desire yields to collective need, but the yielding is voluntary, which is what makes it love.
In the original, an angel oversees the union. Here it is a shop steward. Less celestial, more practical, equally binding.
