The goddess who dwells in the Halema'uma'u crater of Kilauea, manifest in every eruption and lava flow. Pele is the living volcano, her hair the spun glass of cooling lava, her tears the droplets of molten rock. She appears as a beautiful young woman or a wizened elder with a white dog.
