Compass or Map
THE DREAM
An old map spread on a table. It charts territory you recognize, but the names are all different. A red line traces a route you do not remember choosing.
ARTEMIDORUS
A map in dreams is a message from the gods about the structure of one's fate. The territory it charts is the soul, not the world.
ISLAMIC
A compass represents guidance (hidaya). A spinning compass means confusion in one's spiritual direction. A compass pointing true means one is on the straight path.
CHINESE
The south-pointing spoon (sinan) in dreams orients the dreamer's qi. To dream of a map is to be shown the topography of one's karma — mountains are obstacles, rivers are opportunities.
MODERN
Need for direction, planning, or understanding one's position in life. Often appears when the dreamer feels lost but has more information available than they realize.
