Woolly Mammoth
Mammuthus primigenius
Last seen ~2000 BCE
Region Wrangel Island, Arctic Siberia
Cause Climate change, human hunting
The final population survived on Wrangel Island a thousand years after the Great Pyramid was built. Inbred and isolated, they accumulated genetic mutations until they could no longer smell flowers or process fat properly. Then they were gone.
Gone, but not forgotten.
