⚓ GHOST SHIP LOG
Octavius
Merchant sailing ship (possibly apocryphal) · 1775
Found off Greenland by the whaler Herald
FINAL LOG ENTRY
The captain's final log entry, dated November 11, 1762 — thirteen years before discovery: 'We have now been enclosed 17 days in the ice. The fire went out yesterday. The master's son died this morning.'
THE MYSTERY
Found drifting with the entire crew frozen in place — the captain at his desk with pen in hand, crewmen in their bunks. If the dates are accurate, the ship had spent 13 years drifting through the Northwest Passage unmanned, finally completing it as a ghost ship.
FATE
The boarding party from the Herald took only the logbook. Possibly apocryphal, but the story persists in maritime archives.
