Piri Reis Map
◎ Topkapi Palace, Istanbul, Turkey ◉ Found: 1929
A 1513 Ottoman map apparently showing the coastline of Antarctica with remarkable accuracy, centuries before the continent's official discovery in 1820.
The southern coastline represents South America's coast distorted by the map's projection method. Piri Reis compiled it from older Portuguese and Arabic sources.
Copied from maps made by an ice-age civilization that charted Antarctica before it was ice-covered, circa 10,000 BC.
