Mexican Día de los Muertos
Place Homes and cemeteries across Mexico
Materials Tiered wooden or cardboard structure, cempasúchil marigolds, papel picado, photographs
Offerings Pan de muerto, mole, chocolate, mezcal, cigarettes, the favorite foods of the dead
A multi-tiered altar blazing with orange marigolds and candlelight. Paths of petals lead from the door to the altar so the dead may find their way home. Sugar skulls bear the names of the departed.
Not mourning but reunion. The dead return for one night to feast, drink, and hear the gossip of the living.
