COLD CASE
1959
Dyatlov Pass Incident
Anomaly
Nine experienced hikers died in the mountains under bizarre circumstances. They cut their way out of their tent from the inside and fled into -30°C temperatures without adequate clothing. Some had massive internal injuries with no external wounds. One was missing her tongue and eyes. Soviet investigators concluded they died from a 'compelling natural force.' The case was reopened in 2019.
STATUS:
Russian authorities attributed deaths to an avalanche in 2020. Widely disputed.
